本展覽以活動於臺南之早期書畫家為主，展區以風格及技法特色劃分，共分為八區，展品年代跨越明鄭時期至日治中期，本次展覽承臺灣歷史博物館、寄暢園文化藝術基金會、何創時書法藝術基金會、大牛兒童城文化推廣基金會及南方俗民物質文化資料館之大力協助，慨然借展典藏之先賢遺墨共157件，至為難得，是近十年來規模最大的台灣早期書畫展，也期望能讓大眾一窺早期臺南書畫的蓬勃及其代表臺灣美術發展開端之重要性。
