台灣咖啡館的發展，因日本統治的關係，帶有大量的日式風格及色彩，加上台灣本土自身的特色，成為特有的咖啡文化。這特有的咖啡文化，一方面是指カフアー為帶有酒店色彩的聲色場所，另一方則是文化人士及新聞記者固定集會的藝文空間。故本圖錄意將這樣一個代表台灣特有咖啡文化空間進行介紹，並把當時咖啡館對於台灣影響及它背後代表的意義，做一次精簡的整理。除了介紹日治時期古坑地區台灣種植咖啡的歷程外，並對台灣早期咖啡館與酒店之間的模糊地帶，在咖啡館服務的女給及當時咖啡館與美術、音樂和文學間的關係中，進行聯結。　　Though the coffeehouse is a product of Western culture， the formation of Taiwan’s coffee culture has a profound connection with Japan。 In the early years of Japanese rule， coffee house were mostly run by Japanese people， and it represents the place for Western forms of recreation。 ＂Early Taiwanese Coffee Culture Exhibition＂ was held to allow the public to learn more about Taiwan’s unique coffee culture， and this book is a summary of the exhibition。 The book includes introductions of coffeehouse jyogyuu （cabaret waitress）， coffeehouses and music， coffee growing， and coffeehouses and art， as well as many images of coffee sets， furniture， and other items that could be seen at old coffeehouses in Taiwan. Moreover， four essays in either Chinese or English are also included to provide more information about early Taiwanese coffee culture and revolution of coffee culture in Taiwan。
